If you find yourself weak of wallet yet still a slave to fashionista longings, take heart and a cue from Garbage Dress blogger/designer/oh-so-clever recycler Zana Bayne who took a boring pair of purple (yep, she painted them!) shoes and with a few hundred rhinestones, a lot of glue and I'm assuming tons o' time and revamped them into these runway ready show-stoppers.
Finally, some common ground between motorheads and fashionistas. Designer Kim White has mined the upholstery from vintage cars—and created very cool looking, fashionable, and functional bags. Inside each purse is a tag stating where it came from. You’ll know if your tote was from a ’78 Mustang or an ’86 Volkswagen. I am so addicted to this designer that I want to heat her up on a spoon and shoot her directly into my veins. MANIMAL, by Kristen Lombardi is that effortless blend of bohemian free-spirit and high design that junkies like me scale the earth for. It's especially cool that Kristen doesn't waste a thing and uses the scraps of material from her insanely cute moccasins (which have recycled tire soles) to make quirky jewelry and bags. Of course, heroin is slightly more affordable than these pricey picks but my mom would get mad. 
Life is full of perplexing juxtapositions and random ironies. Nutrition facts at McDonald’s, braille at drive-through ATMs. But despite the name, KittinHawk accessories are not moronic — oxy or otherwise. The
one-of-a-kind jewelry is handmade from vintage and recycled materials. Designer Allysun Dutra derives inspiration from everything from
flappers and animals to film noir and Marie Antoinette, resulting in a
Victorian-meets-punk feel. Shoulder-sweeping earrings combine
spotted feathers and dangling crystals. Charm necklaces are adorned
with vintage cameos. A collar combines fur and draped chains. Demure
headbands — especially the number with a pale yellow bow atop a veil of
netting — are part little girl, part siren.
Who among us doesn't have a baggy T (or six) lying around? Designer Mari Santos of Urban Renewal takes all those ugly 'ol shirts that you wouldn't be caught dead in and transforms them into adorable pieces you'd actually love to wear. She embodies such a creative (and green) spirit that I had to share her with you!
